Your prenatal visit:

I'll meet with you (and anyone else you want to attend the birth) in your home about four weeks before your due date. We’ll discuss how your pregnancy is going, your birth plan, and how to keep in touch with me when you are in labor. We’ll talk about any questions, concerns, or fears you might have. We'll also review your partner's priorities and boundaries.

On the big day:

We will be in close contact from the time that labor begins. I prefer that you call when you think you are in labor, even if you do not need me yet. I can answer questions and make suggestions over the phone. I will join you when you feel the need for additional support, either at your home or at the hospital, and I will remain with you throughout labor and birth. I will usually stay with you for one to two hours after birth, until you are comfortable and you and your baby are ready for quiet time together. I will also help to initiate breastfeeding, if desired.

Your postpartum visit:

A week or so following your birth, I would like to get together with you to see how you are doing, to review the birth, to admire your baby, and to get your feedback about my role. No need to change out of your pajamas! You can ask me any questions you have, and I can provide you with resources to help make your transition to parenthood as healthy and happy as possible. If you are breastfeeding, I can also assist with any questions, concerns, or problems you are having to help you get on track.

What if I have a cesarean birth?

This will depend on your hospital and your particular caregiver. If the doctor allows it and you desire my company, I will happily join you in the operating room to continue providing you with emotional support throughout the birth. If I do not join you in the operating room, I will be collecting your belongings for you and ensuring a smooth transition to the recovery room and then to the mother and baby wing. If you have chosen the doulatog package, I will still be there to capture those first moments as a new family.

If a cesarean birth is indicated prior to the start of labor, you have three options. You can still have me join you at the hospital before, during (if the hospital agrees), and after the birth to support you. I can meet you at the hospital at the time of birth to provide several hours of lactation support and transition to your room in the Mother & Baby wing. Or you can forego hospital support and have an additional postpartum visit to help you transition to motherhood.

Payment:

Your deposit is due when you sign a contract with me. The remainder is due 4 weeks prior to your due date. You are also welcome to pay in full up front. I accept cash, checks, money orders, and PayPal. To pay with PayPal, use the drop-down menu and payment button above.
